Masuo Ikeda (1934-1997), one of the most important color copperplate printmakers, started his career by participating in the 1st International Biennial Exhibition of Prints in Tokyo (1957). After he received the award in 1960, 1962 and 1964, he became the first Japanese artist to have a solo exhibition at the MoMA in 1965 and received the international prize in prints at the 33rd La Biennale di Venezia in 1966. He was also talented in other field such as writing, film and ceramics.
In 2007, The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto received about 800 prints by Yoko Sato, Masuo Ikeda's partner, and M&Y firm. This "M&Y Collection" is one of the highest qualitative collection of his prints in the world.
This exhibition features about 300 prints from M&Y Collection to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his death.
