I was taken aback by Mr. Sato's sculptures. They strike a very delicate balance to create well balanced constructs that hang from the wall or ceiling, or fee-standing constructs full of detail. Using readymades and objects seemingly rescued from the shore, Mr. Sato builds intricate compositions with slender and graceful metal skeletons. Each piece is reminiscent of pen drawings, and the shadows created by the pieces add further depth to each sculpture. There is another sculpture which utilizes sound to add vibrations and a new dimension to the work. If you're a tinkerer, then this show's a must-see.
海の漂流物をシャープに構成しているという第一印象。
以前は、鋼線に釣り糸だけという線材のみの構成もあったのですが、今回は、さまざまな材料が作品に使われています。
それぞれの材のフォルムなのか、材質なのか、構成・配色･･･。タイトルがないので、一瞬それらの認識に迷うのですが、単純に構成美で楽しませていただきました。
小さな部品の結合や、線材の配し方。作家が純粋に見つめるものをただ見つめて作っている様が判るようでした。
これらの構成は、“何か”を私の脳裏に喚起させてくれそうで、実際、今回の作品たちから色々な空想も湧き出たりするのですが、それは観る人それぞれ違うでしょう。
ギャラリーの内観と相まって、素敵な展示でした。
