Fissure weaving is a process where old fabric is torn and woven into a new cloth. The technique was invented through attempts to preserve valuable cloth that were not large enough to make clothing.
The works displayed include Chusaburo Tanaka's (Chair of Hokkaido and Tohoku Mingu-gaku) collection, and investigates the roots of fissure weaving and introduces works from Kyoto prefecture. There are also works from a public art competition, the 4th National Fissure Weaving exhibition, and will have both antiques and contemporary works on display.
