"Picasso: Like a Child's Curiosity" Exhibition

This event has ended.
At Eki Gallery Kyoto
Media: Painting, Prints, Ceramics

Pablo Picasso is one of the largest influences in 20th century art; his achievements have attracted art fans all over the world, and are valued highly among them.
Since his childhood, Picasso was called a "genius," and exhibited high artistic skills and sensitivity that seemed beyond a child's capabilities. His style has constantly revolved with time, such as his shift from the blue age to the rose age. From Picasso's paintings, viewers can discern inner feelings such as anger, jealousy, conflict and failure.
In the Picasso's later years, he created ceramic works and prints in Vallauris, France. The works produced contain impactful compositions that differ greatly from his past work. The painted illustrations on dishes especially seemed to imitate that made by a child. When completing these works, Picasso cried, "I have finally made works that look like a child's!" With a pressured childhood to create high-quality work, it could be that Picasso was finally released from the burden, and created such works before his death.
The collection exhibited mainly focuses on works that Picasso produced in Vallauris, France. There will be approximately 140 works including oil paintings, prints, ceramics and tapestries, that are part of the collection at the Hakone Open-Air Museum.
