Rice fields their atmosphere with each season; dogtooth violets flower to tell us spring's arrival, Sasakia charonda butterflies that hatch, rice fields that wear a golden color, and quiet mountains covered with snow are all symbolic Japanese sceneries.
The satoyama is composed of fields, copses and creeks, and where humans and animals coexist. Scenes of satoyama used to be everywhere in Japan before the Japan went through economic and technological development.
Mitsuhiko Imamori has been photographing animals, plants and human life at a satoyama near Lake Biwa. This exhibition features about 150 photographs about a dramatic life at satoyama.
