Yoshio Kitayama "Image Theory (History)"
This event has ended.
At MEM Gallery
Media: Painting, Art Talk
Known for his bamboo and paper sculptures, Yoshio Kitayama transferred his medium to painting in the mid-90's. Since then, he has presented two series: The "Iconography" series, where he depicts his clay sculptures on Japanese paper with black ink, and "Universe" series, that contain the mandala. These two series represent "figure" and "ground", and thus, complement each other. By incorporating aspects of history, religion and nationality, he questions these issues as well as painting as a medium itself. The exhibition features mostly new works including "the Strong and the Weak".
Opening Reception: December 4th (Tue) 17:00-
Talk Session: December 20th (Thu) 18:00-
