"Otsu Painting Collection" Exhibition
This event has ended.
At Otsu City Museum of History
Media: Painting
"Otsu paintings" were sold as souvenirs on the Tokaido's commercial strip in Otsu. The Tokaido was an important route during the Edo period (1603-1868) that connected Edo (modern-day Tokyo) and Kyoto. The humorous expressions found in Otsu paintings appealed to many art lovers throughout Japan, and the paintings became popular among them. The exhibition features well-known Otsu paintings, such as the "Devil's Chanting" and "Fuji Daughter", created between the Edo and modern periods.
