After the emergence of "motion pictures" in 1885 by the Lumiere brothers, it has been about 110 years since it arrived in Kobe, Japan. The moving image is one of the indispensable spectacles and arts of the 21st century.
Movies are a result of collaborative effort of multiple talents such as actors/actresses, script writers, directors of music, interior set, costumes, etc. In particular, costume design has gone beyond the genre of film, and has tremendous influence on the fashion scene. Costumes contribute to the character's development, and also to the entire movie as to reflect on the social background of the setting. It takes a role of depicting the history and the future of the fashion industry.
From classic movies to the hottest movies, this exhibition will display 40 rare pieces that are owned by serious collectors from the U.S.
Introducing the magnificent cinema fashion throughout the past 70 years, the show also focuses on the celebrated designers who have supported directors and actors/actresses to shine on screens. The original costumes used in movies are on display with photographs, footage, and drawings.
