In 1917, Kenji Kusaka (1917-2006) was born in Asago city and at age 17, he studied under Keiichi Mikuni. In 1938, his work, "Minoru-Aki" won a prize at the Bunten exhibition and was an active practicing artist until he was called to the war in 1944. After the war, he restarted his career and used local female workers as his subject matter. In 1956, his studio moved to Tokyo and actively participated in the Nitten exhibitions. This exhibition features about 50 pieces of his sculpture work that use Tajima wood as a common material.
