"Tessai's Yamato-e" Exhibition
This event has ended.
At Tessai Museum
Media: Painting, Calligraphy
During the Heian period, artists invented the "Yamato-e," which depicts Japanese landscapes, people and activities. Although Tessai was actively involved in the Bunjin-ga circle, the school of intellectual Japanese painters who used black ink as their common medium, he also had a strong interest towards Yamato-e. Subjects depicted in Yamato-e ranged from portraits of fictional protagonists and historical figures, scenes from Japanese myths, documentation of traditional festivals, and other scenes. Now, Tessai is commonly recognized for his beautiful Yamato-e techniques that incorporate creativity and style.
