"In Japan from old times the phrase 'night and day' has implied a comparison of the negative and positive. At a Javanese antique dealer's I found a daring old calico dyed in the colors of night and day; the dealer told me it was called 'night and day' in English.
The duality of sun and shadow reaches from a religion to daily life. I will want to send a gust of wind through the the space woven by the partial sunlight and shadow in the town houses of Kyoto."
