Kazuki Matsuda + Kyoko Matsuda "The Tone of Mallets and the Poetry of Splinters"
This event has ended.
At Asago Art Village
Media: Sculpture, Art Talk
Kazuki Matsuda (b.1946) and his wife Kyoko Matsu (b.1950) make mute wooden sculpture that commune with the nature of Hyogo's Tajima district. They both create work using camphor as their main material inside the realm of "folk art", the genre most intimate to humanity's way of living, but while also expressing their individual domains.
Kazuki's work ranging from large original modern sculptures dealing with ours and the earth's future and other social issues, to smaller pieces with animal motifs, always has a strong wooden quality to it. Kyoko also takes advantage of wood to produce warm works that show animal and people figures with simplicity and humanity.
This exhibition will introduce around 60 pieces from their dialogue with nature.
