This event has ended.

Boldly integrating the physical into spacial compositions, Aimi Morikawa’s paintings on curved surfaces express “lines of sight” more than “points of view.” A discus athlete in high school, Morikawa transformed the charged energy of that time into art in her superb work “I Try Again At The Discus Throw” (2013), which painted scenes she glimpsed in the few seconds of throwing the discus onto curved surfaces. With the same sense of speed and dynamism, these works depict the visual perspectives of radio exercise programs, an activity familiar to most Japanese people. These works differ considerably from other 2D art or still lifes, yet still possess a painterly beauty.
