Hiroshi Mizuta creates his works through trial-and-error, drawing on materials he has collected, sketches, and his own personal experiences and memories. This exhibition showcases a series of works in which oil paintings have been torn and cut away, and combining elements from another work, creating a collage effect. In these works, there is no concern for planning, composition or completeness. The title, “Retropolis” refers to the artist’s desire to paint, but question what he learned from formal art education.
