What is the role of photography? How will present-day photographs be interpreted one hundred or one thousand years from now? One of the functions of the medium thus far has been a way of knowing the world, of recording. However, when we think about it, these “records” are actually rather unreliable and subject to interpretation or change depending on the values and social positions brought to them by viewers, as well as by captions and titles. This exhibition does not present photographs as records, but rather calls upon photographers to bring out another aspect of the medium. Through the conversations, overlaps, and connections between images, their fragments send out their own messages, widening perspective and understanding in a whole new way. This exhibition is an opportunity for viewers to share in the discovery of new images that emerge spontaneously from the encounters between photos woven into larger textiles of images.
