This event has ended.

Taking “the fragments of memory” as their motif, Mami Yuchi’s works express the beauty and fragility contained within anxiety and hope. In “Silent Picture of Memories” (2013), puzzle pieces form images of what appear to be the architectural remains of windmills, churches, and other structures. For the “Sculpture of Memories of Times” series (2013), Yuchi constructed “artificial” objects from paper printed with lithographic pictures of what look like puzzle pieces. While possessing a nostalgic appeal, Yuchi’s works remind us of humanity’s ceaseless capacity for building civilization, sending a poignant message to those of us who have lived through the 3.11 disaster.
