The early-20th century French painter Raoul Dufy (1877–1953) was a contemporary of artists including Picasso and Matisse. As exemplified by his wall mural “The Electricity Fairy” for the 1937 Paris International Exhibition, his original style featured bright colors and nimble brushwork. This retrospective introduces Dufy’s works from when he left his hometown of Le Havre for Beaux-arts de Paris art school in 1899 through his late years. It traces the development of an artist who pursued his own creative expressions in multiple genres while placing himself at the center of Fauvism, Cubism, and other revolutionary experiments in form. Some of the displayed works will be alternated during the exhibition period.
