Futoshi Miyagi’s “American Boyfriend: Bodies of Water” can be found in two locations at the Kyoto City University of Arts Art Gallery @KCUA: Gallery A and the Horikawa Danchi.
With “American Boyfriend,” Okinawa-born Miyagi confronts his own identity as a sexual minority. The themes of race, nationality and sexuality are explored in this art project in various forms such as photographs, moving image, objects, text, printed matter, performances, and installations.
Miyagi, who has concentrated on Tokyo and New York for his activities until now, will present his first show in the Kansai region. In total, 18 works will be on display, including Miyagi’s well-known “The Ocean View Resort”, announced last December, and new works “River” (moving image) and “Bodies of Water” (text).
