Kisei Kobayashi homeland of Yatsugatake is as if a desolate wasteland in winter, the cold bringing with it the strong sense of death. As summer opens upon the mountain foothills the surviving animals and plants emerge in wandering state, between which human kind is also caught. It is the winter that holds these three worlds of plants, animals and man together in the heightened sense of life and death.
