Koki Omae “Lonely Groups Wasting Away Together”

Artist’s statement: I think human beings are probably the only animals that die from loneliness. To escape this fate, they band together. When they get too attached to their groups, however, they seem to become blind and lose the ability to reason, as if they do not question their approach in trying to avoid feelings of isolation. Viewing them from the margins, I sense something ominous in how such groups run rampant amid peer pressure. I’ve taken these feelings from inside myself and my surroundings and put them in my works.
