Displaying Tamba ceramics and Tamba textiles from Hyogo Prefecture’s Tamba region. Soetsu Yanagi (1889-1961), founder of the Mingei (Folk Crafts) movement, spent his late years as a passionate collector Tamba ware, a form of pottery created at one of Japan’s six great kilns. Tamba textiles, meanwhile, are known for their unique style of hand-woven cotton dyed with plant materials. This exhibition of Tamba ceramics and Tamba textiles also features 90 works of pottery created by the ceramicist Kazutaka Ikuta (1927-1982) in Tachikui, Tamba; Tamba ware from the Museum of Ceramic Art, Hyogo; and Tamba textiles by Yasuko Adachi (1925-2014), who worked tirelessly to revive the art form.
