Derived from the Portuguese work “Barocco” meaning “irregular pearl or stone,” Baroque is an artistic style that is familiar to people all around the world. Since the time of the Council of Trent, paintings were expected not only to recite a story but to communicate and stir up different emotions in the viewer.
From Titian to Rembrandt, this exhibition introduces impressive works from countries as diverse as Italy, Holland, Belgium, Germany, France and Spain, that were produced in the 17th Century.
