This event has ended.

The Tensho Embassy was sent from Japan to visit to the Pope and kings of Europe in 1582. This exhibition introduces art from the Italian cities the Embassy visited during its journey. Displays include portraits of House of Medici members, crafts created in royal studios, tapestries depicting hunting scenes, commemorative medals of the Embassy’s trip, ceramics, glassware, and other works attesting to the artistic culture of each city. Don’t miss “Portrait of Bia de’ Medici,” a Bronzino painting held by the House of Medici, and “Portrait of Mancino Ito,” a work created in the studio of the Venetian painter Tintoretto that was miraculously rediscovered in 2014.
