Polymetric is a musical term that refers to rhythm structures in music, specifically the simultaneous use of two or more conflicting rhythms. Manabu Nakanishi’s “Polymetric” series follows “Cosmic Pulse”, a series of works based on the image of electromagnetic waves that reach earth from the outer limits of space. Manabu Nakanishi utilizes the technique of “Suminagashi” which involves the process of marbling paper with water and Japanese sumi ink in order to obtain impressive effects due to the movement of the water and wind.
