This event has ended.

“Park City” (Inscript, 2009) is Keiko Sasaoka’s collection of photographs she took of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park between 2001 and 2009. Since releasing this book, she has continued to exhibit her work around the country and explore themes related to public parks and Hiroshima in the series “Remembrance” and “Photographers’ Gallery Press no. 12” documenting areas impacted by the Great East Japan Earthquake. Her photographs are dominated by deep shadows and the faces of her subjects are obscured, as if to suggest the people of Hiroshima continue to gaze upon things that are difficult to look at.

In addition to prints of Sasaoka’s major and recent works, this exhibition presents a slide projection of photographs from “Park City” spanning ten years. Sasaoka will also give a talk with Akira Mitamura, another photographer of Hiroshima, on June 6 (19:30–21:00).
