Traveling abroad for over 20 years, news of a UNESCO World Heritage Sites being registered in Kyoto reached Kouichiro Kitaoku’s ears while he was residing in Germany and brought him back to Japan where he started to produce photographs full of luster and gloss - where the subject filled the whole frame, quite unlike the traditional Kyoto photographs of the past.
