Compared to Jomon pottery, Yayoi earthenware is firmer with brighter colors, and can be found in a wider area throughout Japan, from the Tokai and Hokuriku regions through Kyushu and up to Tohoku. This fired earthenware from the Yayoi period (300 BC to 300 AD) is characterized by diverse rope-made patterns and decorative attachments. Their simple, highly functional forms and refined designs demonstrate quiet contrasts. The Museum of Ceramic Art, Hyogo presents more than 160 examples of Yayoi earthenware from archeological sites across Japan, including 31 works designated as Important Cultural Properties. Encounter the ways of life and creativity of the Yayoi people through the beautiful forms and designs of these works.
