Showing the work of early 20th Century French amateur photographer Jacques Henri Lartigue. Lartigue (1894–1986) was born into a rich bourgeois family in Courbevoie, a commune on the outskirts of Paris. During his childhood, he became absorbed in a wooden view camera bought by his father and from then devoted his life to documenting moments of happiness. The first time that his photographic works came to light was at a retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1963, when Lartigue was already 69 years of age. However, the debut of this late bloomer caused a major stir around the world. Lartigue’s exhibition was quickly followed by publications of his works, and along with another French amateur photographer, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Lartigue carved his name in the annals of the history of photography.
