"Portration" is a coined phrase, meaning a mixture of portraiture and installation. Under the theme of portraiture, this unusual exhibition is Yuusuke Nakamura's first in five years. On the second floor for two weeks will be displayed in full color the pictures of three hundred people, drawn on site. On the first floor will be shown numerous original illustrations from Nakamura's previous exhibitions.

"Manga" (comics) is now a universal word and has reached the point where it is read by men and women, young and old. In recent times it has continued to develop, overcoming the simple boundaries of consumerist media to become a separate cultural entity. The content and genre of manga ranges from archetypal action comics to historical tales, love stories, and documentaries. This exhibition focuses on the "frame", the essential component of a comic. As manga has evolved, so also has the concept of the "frame" broadened. Initially showing just absolute chronological direction, the "frame" now has numerous uses, staging unimaginable time changes, a method for drawing the landscape of the mind. Photographic series art works can also be seen as a technique that includes the manga "frame" component. A majority of ceramic works typically have a signature or hidden symbol scratched or painted. Yuge's illustration work employs Indian-ink drawings and Japanese traditional goods, such as hanging scrolls, folding fans, and kimono.

In Japan, there are more than 1200 kinds of spiders, and in the world, that number exceeds 40,000. The most interesting characteristic of a spider is that depending on the situation, it spins different strings from its bottom. The spiderwebs created are varied in design and shape, ranging from circles, fan-shapes, hammock-shapes and domes. This exhibition introduces the geometric designs that have similar qualities as lace, which have been created by the small artist.

On its 6th edition, the exhibition features works from 72 artists of various media and styles.

Under the theme of "The Palm of Buddha" some new works by Aiko Miyanaga, Kazuki Hitoosa and Tomoko Shioyasu. "The Palm of Buddha" ("In the hands of the gods") tends usually to be associated with the idea of manipulation without being aware of it. However, drawing not only from this concept, the aim of this exhibition is an experimentation with how contemporary art can look anew at universal values, that of worshipping "the Palm of the Buddha", of being protected and encouraged, of seizing the benevolence of a certain source. "Flower reflection," Yoshikazu Yoshida's first solo exhibition, showcases photographs capturing the reflection of cherry blossoms on the surface of water. For this series of photographs, Yoshida used the fixed-point observation method, favored for a long time by many photographers. However, with this fixed-point method, precisely because it is at a fixed point, the area's slight movements, the wavering, the quivering the eye cannot see, all are conveyed even better. Moreover, by images layered with the changes of the seasons, viewers will find their perspectives multiplying and proliferating.

The exhibition features photography books produced by recipients of the Ihei Kimura photography award. 37 works will be on display.

The "Link" exhibition series started with a photography shoot in New Zealand in 2001. Through photography, the artist creates a strong connection with landscapes containing untouched nature, and the action of taking a photography becomes similar to the act of praying. Much like the title, "link," viewers realize that human civilization and natural landscapes are linked with each other through the photographs.

Kazuhiro Fujita has worked as a fashion photographer, providing his work for magazines and catalogs. After a two and a half year stay in Paris, he has established a signature style of photography that keeps shadows and colors to a minimum amount. Zenitani moved to Spain in 1990 and currently is working in the Costa-Brava area, north of Barcelona. This exhibition is based on the theme of prayer. Visitors will see a tranquil imaginary landscape, and an inquiring into the deepening of color.

This exhibition shows Ishikawa's latest work, photographs of houses and people in the Canadian Arctic Circle, France and West Africa.

Bunyo Ide and Hideo Midori are both held in esteem in Nihonga circles. The pair's work has a charm rooted in their finely drawn lines and subtle forms, and, adding the deeply expressive sketchings of Takashi Yasuzumi, the gallery will show 20 new works of this trio. Having brought numerous commercials to the world as a director of TV commercials, Shinya Nakajima has constantly commanded the focus of attention in the advertising industry. In 1987 he was among the first to introduce digital technology into commercials, offering graphic designers and art directors the opportunity to enter the TV commercial industry. Ever since, he has been the foremost figure of the new digital video age. Marking the 20th anniversary of the birth of digital video, this exhibition introduces the world of Shinya Nakajima’s TV commercials, on which he has collaborated with 29 front-rank art directors. Guillaume Leingre seeks to create works using constrained conception and production techniques with a great knowledge of both historical and contemporary contexts. With Une exposition de photographies/An exhibition of photographs, Guillaume Leingre reaches the very disturbing equilibrium of creating "silent photographs". Photographs of virtual spaces and multiplicating cells. Primitive photographs. Primordial photographs. They work like looking glasses where a shameless reality repeats on a mathematical algorithm. That’s what we found there, in the obsolescence and captivating mystery of the QR Code, a photograph that recalls a mandala structure dedicated to the relentless beauty of an exponentially abstract world. The exhibition focuses on the concept of Japan. With motifs such as cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, and the kimono, the Kunio Sato creates original illustrations that depict the Japanese identity.

Ken Hamazaki uses rice covered in gold leaf, which are then pasted on a material to create a maze. A golden rice is symbolic of good fortune in the Buddhist sphere. However, typically it is only one grain of rice that is regarded good luck. Thus when there are plenty, does it mean that there are too many dieties? Or is it a rejection of religion? During the Edo period (when Japan had an isolationist policy), Japan did in fact have contact with foreign countries. In Vietnam, the encounter of traditional lacquer painting and western painting produced a unique genre called lacquer painting during the colonial period. Thanh Chuong has high recognition in this genre. After graduating from Musashino Art University, he went on in receiving his masters from Canadian and American institutions. In the late 1960's, the Mono movement in Japan created a new wave in the Japanese art world and was eventually recognized internationally. The core person behind this movement was Nobuo Sekine, who created "Topology - Land." Sekine has been an active artist in the Kansai area, and his career bloomed after the release of "Topology - Land." The exhibition will be held in both YOD gallery and Kyobundo Gallery in Osaka. "The Oikos of the exhibition title comes from ancient Greek, meaning a place of residence, and forms the root of the words 'ecology' and 'economy'. I have for a long time been concerned about the estrangement between the 'environment', that which humanity is trying to protect through the Kyoto Protocol, and the entity of nature. Humanity is fated only ever to be able to consider along its own scale of thought. Like a seed the things gained a posteriori swell too much, and we cannot then understand the gravity of what has been caused. "In Japan from old times the phrase 'night and day' has implied a comparison of the negative and positive. At a Javanese antique dealer's I found a daring old calico dyed in the colors of night and day; the dealer told me it was called 'night and day' in English. The duality of sun and shadow reaches from a religion to daily life. I will want to send a gust of wind through the the space woven by the partial sunlight and shadow in the town houses of Kyoto." (Statement by the artist)

In fall of 2007, a rather awkward scene appeared in the city of Ghent, Belgium: 14 portraits of women with red hair were installed on a large office building. Inspired by Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s painting of a redhead female, Michiel Hendryckx, a Flemish photographer, created the installation for the British Vision exhibition’s PR campaign. In the UK, redheads are given mean stereotypes or names such as “carrot top” or “Duracell”. In fact, the 14 that were photographed were no exception, as they shared their stories of childhood teasing. Ironically, in the US and mainland Europe, red hair color has become popular as more people dye it in its different hues of the color. In conjunction with the above series, the “2 Eyes on Europe” presents images that were created by Hendryckx for the movie “27x27x27”. For this movie, Hendryckx along with photographer Johan Jacobs and cameraman Luc Vrydaghs, toured Europe and asked 27 artists from 27 countries on what they think is the most valuable masterpiece in art history. The photographs that capture various scenes of Europe were taken to accompany the movie, and were exhibited in Brussels in 2007. The exhibition will feature 14 color portrait photographs and 40 monochrome photographs.

"Children are like blessings from heaven and the photo albums of children contain very important memories for a family. The memories that jump out of albums, photo after photo - these revived memories have been made into images." (Statement by the artist)

This exhibition will display a clay animation film, alongside stills and the actual props and sets using in the production. It will document the turning points that mark the shift from the artist's toil to the full releasing of his creativity.

"Leaving for a journey. The destination of this journey is fixed, however this is not only the "journey" of going to the destination, but also the "process" of arriving there. The landscapes pile up layer upon layer like lacquer work. This train journey of tracing the outline and shape of Japan, from now it will continue for a while." The captivating shade given by the trees has been captured by photographer Masami Mori. In his work you can see the momentary forms of beauty, distinct but at times ambiguous, quivering and flowing.

"My aim is to use the minutely changing faces of the commonplace things from daily life, those inexorably fading away in concurrence with destiny, to express something that gets a little closer to a sense of being." (Statement by the artist)

The exhibition features wooden sculptures that were created from a ragged (old and used) time. The larger sculptures almost reach to a person's height. *Exhibiting at Room A

This exhibition will introduce a new style from the artist. All the paintings have been produced on giant canvases over size 20, each showing her individual stories. Added to the paintings the story will be set in the middle, so that the work can be carefully appreciated from two perspectives, that of a text and that of a visual object. Further, during the exhibition period, the gallery will hold special live painting events on its exterior walls.

The exhibition features works by author Miyoko Matsutani and the illustrated books she has created. One of the core themes of her work is the war, and has released many books on that topic.
