<p>Tackling in photographs, from the point of view of the so-called "student", the "now" of oneself and one's work, through by having it seen by others, one's expression can be looked at anew. Further, by connecting with people who are not in fact students and classmates, the aim is to come together creatively.
From this concept, Nadar has been holding annually since 2000 the "Students Who Express" exhibition. Every year the project stages stimulating interaction between numerous different school's students.</p>

<p>"No matter how severe the reality we confront, we must never forget to laugh." Turning 80 this year, Elliot Erwitt's photography seems to carry this message. When he was 25, on the recommendation of Robert Capa, he joined the renown Magnum Photos, launching a career of more than half a century. With his unique attention to wit and humor, Erwitt's work is full of humanity and can boast of immense popularity all over the world.
This exhibition will draw 130 pieces from the collection of the Kahitsukan Kyoto Museum of Contemporary Art, carefully selected according to the themes of lovers, family, beaches, streets, dogs and art museums.

"The Palm of Buddha" ("In the hands of the gods") tends usually to be associated with the idea of manipulation without being aware of it. However, drawing not only from this concept, the aim of this exhibition is an experimentation with how contemporary art can look anew at universal values, that of worshipping "the Palm of the Buddha", of being protected and encouraged, of seizing the benevolence of a certain source.

<p>"Flower reflection," Yoshikazu Yoshida's first solo exhibition, showcases photographs capturing the reflection of cherry blossoms on the surface of water. For this series of photographs, Yoshida used the fixed-point observation method, favored for a long time by many photographers. However, with this fixed-point method, precisely because it is at a fixed point, the area's slight movements, the wavering, the quivering the eye cannot see, all are conveyed even better. Moreover, by images layered with the changes of the seasons, viewers will find their perspectives multiplying and proliferating.</p>

<p>The "Link" exhibition series started with a photography shoot in New Zealand in 2001. Through photography, the artist creates a strong connection with landscapes containing untouched nature, and the action of taking a photography becomes similar to the act of praying. Much like the title, "link," viewers realize that human civilization and natural landscapes are linked with each other through the photographs.</p>

<p>Guillaume Leingre seeks to create works using constrained conception and production techniques with a great knowledge of both historical and contemporary contexts.
With Une exposition de photographies/An exhibition of photographs, Guillaume Leingre reaches the very disturbing equilibrium of creating "silent photographs". Photographs of virtual spaces and multiplicating cells. Primitive photographs. Primordial photographs. They work like looking glasses where a shameless reality repeats on a mathematical algorithm. That’s what we found there, in the obsolescence and captivating mystery of the QR Code, a photograph that recalls a mandala structure dedicated to the relentless beauty of an exponentially abstract world.

<p>During the Meiji era, the so-called era of photography, Risaburo Kudo started taking photographs, centering on the temples in Nara but also as far as Oita in Kyushu. In a time when the historicism of the fine arts in Japan was not as settled as today, Kudo set out to document the Cultural Properties. After publishing "The Essence of Japan" in 1908, he produced a total of 11 collections through his enthusiasm, the results of which we are still able to inherit today.
1025 of his remaining negatives have been recorded as National Tangible Cultural Properties and to mark this, 25 original prints will be exhibited, showing the modern Japan that Risaburo Kudo photographed.

<br />(2008-05-20 - 2008-05-25)</p>
<p>On New Year's Day 2008, the photographer Masafumi Uchino died suddenly at the age of 34. Uchino had been photographing Kyoto's Yasaka Shrine on New Year's Eve until, just after the new year broke, at one o'clock in the morning he collapsed and, although taken to hospital, he died before dawn.
Uchino traversed and photographed every part of Japan, leaving behind a large body of work. In mourning for his all too early death and synchronizing with the exhibition at the Nikon Salon (5/22-5/28) arranged before he died, Uchino's supporters will hold these dual memorial shows.
At Nadar will be exhibited a selection of 20 of his color prints, including "Cellphone and Mirror" and "Idol".
Further, Gallery 176 will show from May 24th to June 3rd the photographs of his immersion in Kyoto life until he moved. Alongside his comment "I, to the Capital" there remains these six previously unpublished monochrome prints.

<br /> at Flanders Gallery (Osaka Castle area)

<br />(2008-05-20 - 2008-06-14)</p>
<p>In fall of 2007, a rather awkward scene appeared in the city of Ghent, Belgium: 14 portraits of women with red hair were installed on a large office building. Inspired by Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s painting of a redhead female, Michiel Hendryckx, a Flemish photographer, created the installation for the British Vision exhibition’s PR campaign. In the UK, redheads are given mean stereotypes or names such as “carrot top” or “Duracell”. In fact, the 14 that were photographed were no exception, as they shared their stories of childhood teasing. Ironically, in the US and mainland Europe, red hair color has become popular as more people dye it in its different hues of the color.
In conjunction with the above series, the “2 Eyes on Europe” presents images that were created by Hendryckx for the movie “27x27x27”. For this movie, Hendryckx along with photographer Johan Jacobs and cameraman Luc Vrydaghs, toured Europe and asked 27 artists from 27 countries on what they think is the most valuable masterpiece in art history. The photographs that capture various scenes of Europe were taken to accompany the movie, and were exhibited in Brussels in 2007.
The exhibition will feature 14 color portrait photographs and 40 monochrome photographs.</p>
