The Mie Prefectural Art Museum opened its doors to the public in September 1982. Since then, the museum has focused on acquiring paintings from Japan with modern-western influences and analyzing how Japanese society modernized into the contemporary. There are also 5000 works by local Mie artists along with library resources and references. The museum also maintains and preserves artworks for the future generations.
