Museum in The Kobe area

The building that houses Uroko Museum of Art was the first western-style house in Kobe that opened its doors to the public. It is recognized as one of the top hundred houses in Hyogo prefecture because of its architecture. Constructed in 1905 (during the Meiji era), wealthy foreign visitors rented the building as a temporary living space. Now it has become a symbol western sentimentalism, prevalent during the Meiji period.
