Dating back to 1637, this building and its grounds were once the residence of renowned priest Shokado Shojo, known as one of the "Three Brushes of the Kan'ei Era,", one of greatest calligraphers of the early Edo period, believed to have built the Shokado residence following his retirement as the head of the Takimotobo temple. Here visitors can enjoy the tea ceremony in the Soan Tearoom, designated as an important cultural property, and appreciate a stroll around its beautiful gardens, rich with plants and flowers throughout the four seasons.
