The museum aims to deepen people's knowledge of Nara prefecture, a city that is integral to Japanese history, by studying its ancient ruins and resources. The museum has a permanent exhibition, "the Archeology of Yamato (Nara)", two featured exhibitions in the spring and fall, and a special exhibition in the summer featuring items from the most recent excavation(s). In the exhibition spaces, volunteer docents are available for questions and explanations of displayed items.
