Hiroshi Suga "Amami, Living in the Island"
Osaka Nikon Salon
This event has ended.
For sixty years after World War II, Japan went through a period of growth and chaos. With the rapid economical development in the 1980s, everyone had thought that Japan had finally become a chief player in the international market.
Another ten years passed since then. The overheated bubble economy had burst and enormous non-performing loans piled. As a result, enterprises experienced re-organization, restructuring and deflation. Hiroshi Suga seeks how to express the Japanese anxiety towards this change. Believing that amidst this chaos, there are people who try to preserve their identity by living quietly, he directed himself to Okinawa and Amami island. From his experience, he realizes that the society in these small islands contain a safe place for people to live in.
