The children's book fair that takes place in Bologna, Italy, holds the largest children's book illustration competition in the world. Every artist is entitled to win, as long as their portfolio consists of five illustrations. This year the contest celebrates its 41st year and 2,653 illustrators from 58 countries submitted their work. There were 17 Japanese artists among the 85 winners from 23 countries.
The special exhibition this year features works by German artist Wolf Erlbruch who won the "Nobel Prize of picture books", the International Andersen Award last year.
