"Tokaido and Kisokaido; Hiroshige's Ukiyoe of Two Main Roads" Exhibition

Edo period's Ukiyoe master, Hiroshige Utagawa's (1797-1858) landscape prints are valued not only in Japan but also abroad. The "Tokaido 53 Tsugi" series are especially famous.
This exhibition shows the first editions from the Two Main Roads simultaneously for the first time, along with the well-known "Edo Suburban Eight Scenes" and "Omi Eight Scenes". Thus, the exhibition provides a rare opportunity to indulge in Hiroshige's powerful landscape prints all at once. Furthermore, since the only existing Hiroshige's traveling diary "Koshu Diary Sketch Notebook" has been found in America after missing for 80 years, it has returned back to its home country after an interval of approximately 110 years.

Workshop Information:
In respect to the woodblock printing tradition, we will draw outlines on a Ukiyoe postcard, and add color. Each participant will create an original postcard.
