"Reflection: Six Artists From Nishinomiya" Exhibition

Nishinomiya is a city located between two major cities, Kobe and Osaka. With a temperate climate, the city is known for its liquor production. Since the Meiji period, with the advancement of the railway system, the city became home to many people and it developed as a residential area. Included in the surge of newcomers, artists also moved into the city.
The exhibition features works by these artists: Keinosuke Ito is a painter who also taught in local schools; Kokuta Suda is an abstranct expressionist painter who also provided illustrations for publications; Takako Araki is a ceramist who incorporated silkscreen printing in the world of clay; Shichiro Imatake is a graphic designer who gained international recognition through his Mentholetum's signature nurse character; Waichi Tsuda is an internationally-known abstract expressionist who also held exhibition in the outdoors; and Makio Yamaguchi is who engaged in public art through an art group "Environmental Sculpture Q."
Through a display of about 80 works, the exhibition reflects upon Nishinomiya's local artists and their accomplishments.
