"Shoen and the World of Beauty Portraits" Exhibition
Daimaru Museum Kobe
This event has ended.
Since ancient times, regardless of country or artistic style, many artists have been intrigued by the "female beauty." Japan is not an exception, and since the early Edo period, when Ukiyo-e prints became a popular medium, artists such as Shoen Uemura, and Kiyokata Kaburaki have avidly produced female portraiture. The exhibition features approximately 30 pieces by Shoen, and a number of other pieces by notable Japanese painters. Visitors will be able to trace the stylistic development and each painter's perspective through the works displayed.
