40th Anniversary Exhibition “Yearning for Chinese Culture: Modern Painting and Tea Utensils”
Egawa Museum
This event has ended.
Chinese culture has been a prevailing influence throughout Japanese history since ancient times, particularly in the Edo period when the ruling shogunate built a strict feudal hierarchy based on Confucian principles, and knowledge of Chinese literature and art was sign of cultivation considered necessary among the elite classes. This exhibition showcases works of painting inspired by typical Chinese subjects, from Four Arts of the Chinese Scholar, the mountain hermits, and birds and flowers. Also featured are Chinese-style tea utensils.
