This exhibition commemorates 400 years since the death of the two Honganji priests and leaders of the Ikko Uprising, Kenyo and Kyonyo. It explores the history of the Honganji school of Jodo Shinshu (Pure Land) Buddhism, its conflict with the great warlords Nobunaga and Hideyoshi, and how it came to win favour during the Hideyoshi regime; its a focus on the northern Omi region (modern-day Shiga), where Hideyoshi was a lord and the influence of Kyonyo is evident today.
