This event has ended.

Influenced by her mother, Nobuyo Miyamoto has been practicing painting and calligraphy for more than 60 years. To this day her works feature unbroken twisting and turning lines. She currently most enjoys ink painting, but considers her calligraphy, oil paintings, watercolors, and haiku poetry essential to reaching her current level of skill. One mistake in ink painting renders the whole painting useless, and Miyamoto has learned by producing a mountain of waste paper. While it is painful to have to throw out the washi paper, this is an important process. After spending many years in the world of calligraphy, she has rediscovered the merits of ink painting through the study of oil painting. “After 40 years practicing calligraphy and 20 years practicing oil painting, I now paint women in ink”, she says.
