Hokusai and Rivière— Two “Thirty-Six Views” and Hokusai Manga

Presenting “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji”, the world-famous work of Ukiyo-e artist Hokusai Katsushika, along with “Thirty-Six Views of the Eiffel Tower” a series by the printmaker Henri Rivière, who was known as “the Ukiyo-e artist of Paris”. This unique exhibit is the first time for these two series from Japan and France to be shown together in Kansai. Also on display are “Hokusai Manga”, which, along with “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji”, had an enormous impact on European Impressionism. There is also a special exhibit of valuable woodblocks for “Hokusai Manga” preserved since the end of the Edo era. This show explores the artistic vision of Hokusai that has charmed people around the world.
