poster for Collection: Temples and Shrines from Shinto and Buddhism

This event has ended.

Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines are sacred spaces of worship. Paintings that consist of wonderful tales, beautiful scenery, and solemn ceremonies are essential in uniting people and the Shinto and Buddhist cultures. The world of temples and shrines is revealed in this collection of Engi paintings (which show the origins and legends of temples), Meisho-e paintings (Ukiyo-e landscapes), Sairei-zu paintings of festivals, and portraits.
