Permanent event

The residence of the late ceramic artist and key figure in the mingei (Japanese folk art) movement, Kanjiro Kawai, has been converted into a museum dedicated to his works. Tucked away in a Kyoto side street, the first floor is equipped with a hearth. Exhibited on the first floor are ceramics created by Kanjiro, along with chairs, cupboards and other furnishings. In the courtyard are Kanjiro’s ceramics studio and kiln just as they were when he used them.
