Presenting Hideo Nishiyama’s black and white illustrations for the novel “Harimanada Monogatari” (Harimanada Tale) by Ryotaro Shiba. “Harimanada Monogatari” tells the story of Kanbee Kuroda, the revered military strategist who played an important role in the unification of Japan under Hideyoshi Toyotomi. The illustrations portray the battles, landscapes, characters, and flora and fauna encountered by Kuroda, as well as the customs of Japan’s Warring States period.
