This event has ended.

From a young age, the Nihonga painter Shoen Uemura would bring her art supplies to museums to create reproductions of paintings from various eras. Taking hints from their compositions, Uemura was moved by these high caliber classical works, which taught her much about art. Shoko Uemura and Atsushi Uemura (Shoen’s son and grandson, respectively), received inspiration not only from Japanese paintings, but also the artistic legacies of other countries seen in works such as the Altamira cave murals and Egyptian and Assyrian reliefs. This exhibition offers a look at the endlessly rich progression of art that gives rise to new creations, a chain of beauty.
