The Tokyo Type Directors Club Exhibition 2016 presents the results of the “Tokyo TDC Annual Awards 2016”, an international design competition sponsored by the Tokyo Type Directors Club. This year’s competition drew a total of 2,800 entries (1,703 from Japan and 1097 from overseas). Following a rigorous screening process, the following awards were bestowed: 1 Grand Prize, 1 Type Design Prize, 1 RGB Prize, 1 Special Prize, and 5 TDC Prizes.
After winning last year’s Type Design Prize, Henrik Kubel and Scott Williams from Britain have been commissioned to produce a set of custom fonts for the New York Times magazine, which will be on show. In addition to the 9 prizewinning creations, the exhibition presents nominated works and other outstanding entries, for a total of over 150 typographic works. This impressive array may change your ideas and perspectives on typography.
