The Omizutori water and fire ritual has been conducted at Todaiji Temple’s Nigatsudo Hall since the Nara Period (710–794). Sacred Buddhist objects, paintings conveying history and tradition, ancient manuscripts, and other artifacts recreate this long-practiced rite.
