From major traditional and formal festivals to smaller regional ones, festivals taking place all across Japan convey the nation’s culture. These photographs capture not only the uniqueness and excitement of Japanese festivals, but the memorable moments of their people. The camera store Kitamura supports Japanese festivals preserving local traditions with the Festivals of Japan photo contest. Last year it received 9,237 digital camera and smartphone photos as entries. Sixty-eight award-winning works are on display.
